RED Says EPIC Camera is Back on Track, Scarlet to Follow Before End of 2010
July 10, 2010

RED may have shown off a working EPIC camera at NAB back in April, but a serious bug has prevented the camera from actually going into production -- to the point which RED founder Jim Jannard himself says that they're not just behind schedule anymore, they are "embarrassingly late."

The Loch Ness Monster, The Abominable Snowman, Big Foot and now ….. The Scarlet. It’s coming this fall… yeah we should have it this spring… we have a new development cycle for his summer… remember we will have over a million configurations so get ready this fall, were just about got the kinks worked out for this summer and remember “Things always change in the red world as things continue to develope…..but uh it’s getting there.” Hello were “RED” (cue the song "Promises Promises by naked eyes") and you know we can/will continue to promise & promise because just like the color red, we want you to stop what your doing, look and listen. Every six months we’ll send Ted (from RED) to give you that carrot oops and show you a plethora of prototypes, an accessory of attachments and loads of lenses… to drool over. Now remember don’t look at the other DSLR cameras on the block. Why? Because there cheaper, and will work with most non-linear editors and most of all…there AVAILIABLE! No No No because they use ”Cue intense music Dun, Dun, Duuuuuun”…. Compression (yucky, icky, foowy). Our cameras don’t use compression, never have never will (100% naturally raw;-). So kids don’t go out and make that independent film you’ve always wanted to make. Let the other independent thinkers oops I mean fools go out and make their features… with the camera they have… and then see there dreams come to fruition… while making connections in the industry… and possibly becoming financially free along the way “Hallelujah!” No! No! No! You, continue to wait on us “RED” for our mythical camera…. what, what, what did I just say, wait-a-minute that sounds like a name for a new model. Quick! Get Ted on the phone. Coming this fall/summer or is it spring/winter. Oh what the heck, “Coming Soon RED introduces “The Mythic”…. 10k Digital Cinema Camera;- ) Let’s all sing it together….”You make me, Promises Promises”

We may not be happy with the RED production timeline but one thing I believe is that even if the RED, Scarlet etc.. were to off the face of the planet, it is apparent that the whole market of cameras has been pushed forward with Jannard's forward thinking. That being said.. I still think he's has and is going to put out game changing cameras. Hopefully, I can afford one.

Do you know Jannard personally? It seems that you have a whole lot of anger towards him.

Does anyone really care what this egomaniac says? We were promised a Scarlet 3 (THREE!) NAB's ago and all he does it put down every other camera or technology out there. Happy they're finally getting close but I'll never use a RED product on any production ever! There's no bigger jerk in the industry than Jannard. Thank you ARRI and Canon for not talking, just delivering great products!
